This investment, according to Kelly Christenson, supervisor of freight and rail programs within the department, aims to bolster Minnesota’s competitiveness in both the national and global economies. Of the allocated funds, $9.6 million will be distributed across 11 distinct projects spanning various sectors including agriculture, sugar production, industrial development, and governmental initiatives.
Among the notable projects receiving support are:
1. A $1.9 million investment in the construction of a unit train loading facility for Northern Country Co-op located in Lansing.
2. Allocation of $1.56 million towards the development of land designated for a new industrial park and innovation center operated by Minnesota Northern Railroad Co. in Crookston.
3. Provision of $1.5 million to facilitate the installation of modern railcar offloading stations for Louisiana-Pacific Corp. situated in Watkins.
4. An investment of $1.1 million to construct 2,150 feet of additional track to facilitate the transportation of fertilizer for an upcoming agronomy center managed by Meadowlands Farmers Co-op in Echo.
5. Expansion of a packaging warehouse for American Crystal Sugar Co. in Crookston, with an allocation of $960,000.
6. Upgrading of a railroad crossing signal and implementation of accessibility enhancements for the city of Little Falls, supported by $613,600 in funding.
7. An investment of $511,446 to expand track infrastructure and install internal switches within an existing terminal operated by Seven Rivers Intermodal Terminal in Winona.
8. Allocation of $468,137 towards the improvement of bridges within Progressive Rail’s Minnesota system.
9. Enhancements to the rail loading system for Sanimax US in South St. Paul, supported by $400,000 in funding.
10. Extension of track infrastructure near Cologne for Twin Cities & Western Railroad Co., with an investment of $328,424.
11. Rail improvements for DeRock Capital Group located in Hector, supported by an allocation of $246,000.
